Animal Health - "At Stray Hearts, We Care."

"Love the animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled" ~ Fyodor Dostoyevsky

Here at Stray Hearts, we are fully dedicated to the health and well-being of the animals in our care, but it doesn't stop there. We are on a mission to help educate our community at large about the proper and humane care of animals.

Animals, like humans, need regular medical check-ups to live a long, healthy and rewarding life. They require annual vaccinations in order to protect them from typical illness and to prevent the further spread of disease in our community. We encourage all pet owners to take their pets annually to the vet as a minimum part of proper care.

Animals should also be protected against ticks and fleas. Ask your vetinarian for these perventative medications and the times of year they are most applicable. Heartworm medication is very important for dogs during the mosquito season. Giving annual heartworm treatments can save your animal's life and can save you in veterinary costs should an animal contract heartworm, which is fatal.

There are other tests that can help your animal with preventative care. Ask your vetinarian about the types of preventative care available for your pet.

An essential part of health care for our
pets today is the spay/neuter process.

At Stray Hearts, it is part of our adoption agreement that a pet is not released to a new home until it is spayed or neutered in the case of animals over 6 months, and with a promise to spay or neuter for animals under 6 months.

It is an imperative piece of the puzzle to disolve the problem of unwanted pets in our country today and to help end their suffering. While we all dream of fluffly puppies and kittens, the reality is harsh. Animals are often discarded instead of being able to take the time and energy to find responsible and loving homes.

The animals need our help. Spay or neuter your pet.
Help him or her lead a more healthy life, as spaying and neutering can prevent some types of cancers in pets.
