Step 1: Prepare

  • Think about what type animal fits your lifestyle

  • Research breed characteristics

  • Pet-proof your home

Dogs Need:

  • An exercise plan

  • Fenced yard, play area or trolley system
    (no long term tethering)

  • Leash walking (6' leash or more)

  • Toys and balls

  • Food and fresh water

Cats Need:

  • The safety of an indoor environment

  • Exercise - toys and activity boxes

  • One litter box per cat

  • Food and fresh water


Step 2: Visit


Step 3: Get Acquainted

  • Set up a meet and greet with your family members and other pets

  • Welcome your new family member home!

Adoption Requirements

  • You must be at least 18 years old with a photo ID (driver’s license, state issued ID, student ID, passport)

  • If you currently rent, you must have permission from your landlord to have a pet. Please bring a signed copy of your lease.

  • You should be financially able to provide for the animal's needs. This includes food, supplies, license, regular veterinary care, and emergency medical care.  

Stray Hearts Adoption Fees

Our adoption fees help offset the cost of shelter, food and medical care for the thousands of animals that need our care.  All adopted animals have been spayed/neutered, de-wormed, microchipped and vaccinated (up to age at adoption). Cats are also given diagnostic blood tests.  


  • Kittens (8 wks - 6 mo) $95

  • Cats (6 mo - 8 yrs) $65

  • Mature Cats (8 years & older) $45

  • Senior Cat for Senior Citizen, no charge


  • Puppies (8 wks - 6 mo) $145

  • Dogs (6 mo - 8 yrs) $80

  • Mature Dogs (8 yrs & older) $55

  • Senior Dog for Senior Citizen, no charge

    Senior Citizen age 65+
