Now, this said, there are a few things to consider:

  1. Pit bulls, like many other working or large breeds are strong. The owner should be able to physically handle it.
  2. Like all dogs with an unknown history, seeing if a potential adoptive dog gets along with your family, other pets, and the kids is the responsible thing to do.
  3. Pits are very smart - and very willful - which is why they are not always the best choice for first time dog owners. A strong "pack leader" as Cesar Millan calls it, is what Pits need to be the best they can be.
